Your Managed IT service plan questions — answered

How are managed IT service plans priced?
Managed IT service plans are priced based on the size of your team, the number of servers and network devices under management and the compliance frameworks and cybersecurity controls relevant to your industry.
How does hourly support billing work?
Hourly support billing works as a usage-based model — you pay for the support hours you use, with no monthly minimum. Macro’s Core plan bills hourly in 15-minute increments. You submit requests by email or phone and reach a U.S.-based service desk during standard business hours, with U.S.-based after-hours and emergency support available as needed at an after-hours rate.
Do managed IT service plans have setup or onboarding fees?
Yes, managed IT service plans typically have setup and onboarding fees, scoped as a one-time engagement separate from the monthly managed IT service plan. At Macro, the cost is based on the size of your environment and the work required to bring it up to our managed services standard.
Is cybersecurity included in every managed IT service plan?
Not all managed IT service providers include cybersecurity in their managed IT service plans. Macro does — all of our plan tiers include a baseline security layer: managed endpoint detection and response, email security, 24/7 SOC monitoring, and patch management, across Core, Complete, and Complete + Compliance.
Can we move between managed IT service plans?
Yes, you can move between managed IT service plans as your business needs change. For example, clients on Core who add headcount or increase their support needs move up to Complete, and clients on Complete who add compliance pressure move to Complete + Compliance.
What if our headcount changes mid-year?
If your headcount changes mid-year, your per-user fee adjusts monthly based on your active user count. As you grow, your bill grows proportionally. If you contract, so does your bill. There is no penalty for downsizing, and there is no premium for growth.
How long does it take to switch managed IT service providers?
Switching managed IT service providers takes most mid-market organizations six to eight weeks from contract signature to full operational handover. Macro’s onboarding runs in four phases — pre-onboarding, discovery, implementation, and transition. We recommend retaining your current provider throughout the onboarding process so coverage stays continuous until the handover is complete. We have experience dealing with uncooperative outgoing providers and work to minimize disruption to your team.
Does IT project work fit into a managed IT service plan?
IT project work is not included in your monthly service plan and is quoted as a one-time engagement. We scope each project separately, propose a fixed cost or time-and-materials estimate depending on the work, and execute under our four-phase project methodology.
Can managed IT service providers purchase hardware and software on our behalf?
Yes, managed IT service providers can purchase hardware and software on a client’s behalf. Macro assesses what your environment needs, recommends the right hardware and software for your operations, and procures it for you.
Does Macro support clients outside New Jersey?
Yes, Macro supports clients outside New Jersey across the U.S. Macro is headquartered in New Jersey and supports mid-market organizations nationwide. Most managed services are delivered remotely, which means support, monitoring, and security operations extend wherever your users are. On-site dispatch is available within our standard NJ service area; for clients outside that radius, on-site coverage is arranged at engagement based on need.

Pricing is one part of the decision. The bigger question is whether the team behind the price can actually deliver on it. Start with a conversation — we’ll listen, ask the right questions, and come back with a quote built on the specifics of your environment.
